The single most important effect required for good measurement results is a clean and precise contour of the object you want to measure. This contour can be achieved and improved by using a backlight to create a silhouette.

Illumination is an essential factor for good edge-detection, for example a too bright light will result in the object being displayed smaller as it really is whereas shadows can cause false edge calculations during measurement.

For the applications covered by Atoms Precision V2 a backlight is the ideal choice for illumination. One of the best components for lighting are LED backlights. As alternative you can use fiber optic backlights to achieve a high-contrast for edge detection or a telecentric backlight if you require a high-end solution for very precise measurements.
